Susanne Schmitt war Geschäftsführerin des Bayerischen Forschungsverbundes ForGenderCare.
Der Forschungsverbund ForGenderCare untersuchte den Zusammenhang von Gender (Geschlecht) und Care (Fürsorge) theoretisch wie empirisch vor einem interdisziplinären Horizont. In ForGenderCare haben sich elf bayerische Forschungseinrichtungen zusammengeschlossen. Das Bayerische Staatsministerium für Bildung und Kultus, Wissenschaft und Kunst fördert ForGenderCare mit 3,2 Mio. Euro für eine Laufzeit von 4 Jahren.

Dr. Susanne Schmitt was Managing Director of the Bayerischer Forschungsverbund ForGenderCare, a network of twelve Bavarian-based research projects exploring the dynamics of gender and care across disciplines.
She is a sensory and multispecies ethnographer and multisdisciplinary artist, facilitator and curator working on sensory politics, care in multispecies settings, atmosphere, movement, gender, taxidermy, museums of natural history, aquariums, biodiversity, and making.
She is currently Creative Director, together with Laurie Young, of "How To Not be a Stuffed Animal" (funded by the Volkswagen Stiftung's Art and Science in Motion scheme, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Anna Lipphardt, Dept. for Cultural Anthropology, Universität Freiburg), a project that produces choreographic soundwalks around topics of care, ecological crisis, and multispecies dependency at Museums of Natural History worldwide (Australian Museum Sydney, Field Museum Chicago, Iziko Museum Cape Town, Deutsches Jagdmuseum München, Museum Mensch und Natur Freiburg).
